sam wellers...

Hello...

We can now get our books at Sam Weller's for 20% off...
For the first few months go in and ask for Cat Weller and tell her you're in 'BookChowder'... She said she'll get it more organized after that so you can just tell the cashier.

Also, I picked the next book...

"The Lost Art of Walking: The History, Science and Literature of Pedestrianism" by Geoff Nicholson

They don't have it at Sam Weller's yet but they'll get it in soon.

New Members!

Please welcome to the fold Oliver Lewis and Eric Peterson. Oliver is Charlie's brother and Eric is a rising star at City Weekly. Both of these gents looooove food and literature. What more could we ask for?
Also, I was thinking maybe Brent could cook up a little something like this for our next meeting:

Success!

Complete success! I couldn't be more pleased with everyone's involvement in last night's meeting. Good Work! One thing that a couple of us were thinking of, which I'm not sure was mentioned to everyone, was to make that the title of your post mentions the area of the book that your question or comment deals with. This would allow us all to read the book at our own pace and comment accordingly. Thanks again for last night everyone!

In the spirit of good old Google Image expressing the first night of Book Chowder, I typed in "chowder melancholy whore." These all showed up on page one. Where was Coldplay in the conversation?

It was a delightful evening. The best thing I got out of the book is that life is about finding meaning and inspiration. And even machismo-bent, misogynistic ninety year-old journalists who will squander their lives away paying for prostitutes deserve it. Damn. I think I just sealed my fate.

December Chowder

It's the first of tha month (wake up, wake up). Uhhh. I love me some Bone Thugs n' Harmony. Where my dogs at?

Anyway, tonight marks the inaugural Book Chowder meeting, an evening of dinner and discussion at The Devil Whale's soggy loft. Plan for a 7 p.m. kick off followed by much eating, drinking and shit talking about Marquez's novella, Memories of My Melancholy Whores. I look forward to bringing everyone down with my feminist critique.

Jake Fish will serve up something tasty and someone will announce January's pick. I hope.
See you in two hours!
